Below is another profile from my upcoming book, this time of the standard swept-winged two-seater, often referred to as the "arrow". The common designation for this variant, "Il-2m3", is incorrect, was never used during the war, and is a postwar invention of uncertain origin. Like the UIl-2 on the preceding page, this Il-2 features the three-colour scheme, although in a different pattern. There were two official patterns proscribed for the three-colour scheme, and most Shturmoviks finished in the three-colour scheme featured some variation of the two patterns. This profile is representative of the No. 1 variant.
